Remember Christ Through the Sacrament

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles described several appropriate ways to remember the Lord while renewing our covenants through the sacrament:

“We could remember the Savior’s premortal life and all that we know Him to have done. …
“We could remember the simple grandeur of His mortal birth to just a young woman. …
“We could remember Christ’s miracles and His teachings, His healings and His help. …
“… We could remember that Jesus found special joy and happiness in children and said all of us should be more like them. …
“We could remember that Christ called His disciples friends. …
“We could—and should—remember the wonderful things that have come to us in our lives and that ‘all things which are good cometh of Christ’ (Moroni 7:24). …
“On some days we will have cause to remember the unkind treatment He received, the rejection He experienced, and the injustice … He endured. …
“… We can remember that Jesus had to descend below all things before He could ascend above them, and that He suffered pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind that He might be filled with mercy and know how to succor His people in their infirmities” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1995, 90–91; or Ensign, Nov. 1995, 68–69).

The Only Way: The Atoning Blood of Christ

O remember, remember, my sons, the words which king Benjamin spake unto his people; yea, remember that there is no other way nor means whereby man can be saved, only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who shall come; yea, remember that he cometh to redeem the world.

--Book of Mormon 5:9

Through the atoning blood of Christ is the only way than humankind can be saved. There is no other way nor means for salvation to occur. Christ’s blood atoned for all is the one and only way to eternal life and never-ending happiness. Christ is the Redeemer of the whole world, and all worlds created by the Almighty God. Put Him first in your life and He will put you in the top kingdom of glory in the hereafter, even the Celestial Kingdom. Jesus said, “I am the way.”

JESUS CHRIST: IN THE ARMS OF HIS LOVE

2 Nephi 1:15 (Book of Mormon)

But behold, the Lord hath redeemed my soul from hell; I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love.

Jesus Christ is our Redeemer; He redeems us from hell, and bondage, physical and spiritual bondage. Without Him we would all be lost and doomed to the eternal pits. With Him, we have the blessing and opportunity of obtaining eternal, inheriting His and the Father’s brightness and glory eternally. He loves us with a perfect love. We can feel His arms encircling us at all times if we but always remember Him, that we keep Him utmost in our minds and seek His guidance and inspiration.

Jesus Christ: True Success in Life

Luke 22:20

19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper established a tradition and commandment that would last throughout the duration of this mortal earth. Jesus administered the bread and wine (now water) to be partaken of in remembrance of His body and His blood.  Jesus promises that if we will partake of His flesh and blood worthily and often, then we  will always have His Spirit to be with us.

Jesus shed His blood voluntarily so that we could exercise our agency  and hopefully choose to follow Him and obey His teachings. Jesus set the perfect example for us to follow and strive to be like. True success in this life is  to  become as Christ-like as possible. The more Christ-like a person is, the more successful he is living. This is the one and only true measure of success in mortality that will really mean anything at the judgment day and throughout eternity. Being the best baseball player or the best singer or the richest person or the greatest doctor or the most popular person will all mean nothing of value in the eternal scope of life. In fact, these worldly achievements can ultimately hurt us forever. What matters most is the type of person we have become. All other things will be trivial. Thus, seek to put God first,  strive to be like Him in your thoughts and actions and desires and motives.

Be like Jesus of Nazareth, our Savior and King.

The Rock of Christ: The Sure Foundation

Helaman 5:12

And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.

JESUS CHRIST, the Son of God, is the Rock upon which we must build our life’s foundation. There is no other foundation we can build upon that will be 100% dependable and lasting. All other foundations will eventually falter and crumble-they will not endure. Some will last a while, others  longer, but as time diminishes in the sunset of existence, these foundations will also lessen and eventually abate and disappear and be replaced with another foundation. The Rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, is the only SURE upon which we can build that will be everlasting, never faltering, never wavering, never weakening, never losing ground. Christ will always be with us and guide us if but choose Him as our irreplaceable, personal life’s foundation.

Choosing the Rock of Christ as our life’s foundation is the starting point to our having a rock-solid mortal experience. This choice qualifies as the most important choice you will ever make because all other choices will be build upon your life’s foundation, and having Christ as your foundation, you will not falter and fall, you will never lose ground, but you will forever move forward and upward becoming more Christ-like and preparing yourself for eternal life in the highest heaven of the Celestial world, if you but endure to the end of mortal life. Enduring to the end is to continue living each day with Christ as your life’s foundation, never replacing Him with another foundation.

Start each day the perfect way, and the perfect way is to build each day on the Rock of Christ. This is done FIRST AND EARLY EACH DAY through mighty prayer, sincere and humble scripture study, deep meditation and pondering on Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ until you feel the Spirit of the Holy Ghost. You start the day by putting Christ first. This makes Him your life’s foundation. If you put Him first, then you will have a successful day, then week, then month, then 12 months, then year, and then a lifetime Put Christ first, make Him your life’s foundation, and you will overcome temptation and experience peace and joy every day of your life.

Jesus: Look-Seek-Follow

Isaiah 51:1

Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged.

JESUS is the Rock from which we are to be molded after. We are created in His image; therefore, we have the capacity to become as He is in personal perfection. He is the perfect example for us to follow and seek to become like. We can become more like Him if we (1) Look to Him, (2) Seek the Lord, and (3) Follow after righteousness.

1. Look to Him:  Always remember Him and His Spirit will be with us. Look to Him in every thought, word, deed, motive, and action. Look at all the marvelous creations, and realize that He is God, the Almighty.
2. Seek the Lord: Try to find the Lord through faith and prayer, through scripture study and fasting, through meditating and pondering. Search His commandments and live them.
3. Follow after righteousness: Obey all His commandments, for therein is peace and security. He is the exemplar of righteousness, and the more obedient we are the more righteous we become. Following Him is following righteous, for He is righteous.

Herein lies the formula for happy, successful living in this lifetime, and it will continue throughout eternity. Look-Seek-Follow our Savior Jesus Christ, and He will bless you forever.

Jesus: The Rock of Our Salvation

Deut. 32:4

He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

Jesus is the Rock of our salvation. He it the Rock we need to build our lives upon rather than sand. Rock is firm and solid; whereas, sand will wash away when the rain and storms come our way. Jesus will never let us down. We build our lives upon Him by learning, living, and abiding by His teachings, His commandments, covenants, and principles of righteousness and truth. He is fair and absolute, possessing all knowledge and wisdom, love and patience, understanding and foresight. Jesus is the foundation stone that will never veer to the right or to the left, but will remain constant amid change in society. You can trust Him 100%. Turn to Him. Look to Him. Believe in Him. Believe Him. Remember Him. Follow Him.

Jesus Christ: The Stone of Israel

Genesis 49:24

But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel.

Jesus is the Mighty God of Jacob, even the Stone of Israel. He is the foundation upon which Israel is built, a stone or rock upon which if they build and continue faithful to the stone, they cannot fall. (See Helaman 5:12). Faith is perseverance, enduring and persisting faithfully. Christ makes us strong and helps us to resist the temptations of satan, the adversary.  Christ lifts us up; whereas, satan tears us down. Satan attacks our thinking with the anticipation of making us choose the wrong and destroy our souls. He sets snares and traps, attempting to catch us constantly. We must be on our best guard at all times, and building our lives upon the foundation of Christ, our Rock, our Stone, is a sure safeguard against the fiery darts of that old serpent, the devil.

Trust in Christ and trust Christ; for He will not lead you astray. He will lead you to salvation and eternal life in the highest heaven of the Celestial world. Seek Him daily, hourly, and moment by moment. Always remember Him, and His Spirit will be with you.

Look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ

Philippians 3:20

For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ

Look up to heaven from whence God and Jesus reside. Look for the Savior, even the Lord Jesus Christ, and ye shall find Him. Especially, look for Jesus early in the morning when your mind is clear and refreshed from a night’s rest, and your mind isn’t cluttered with all sorts of things collected from a full day’s mental and physical activities. Putting Christ early in the morning brings one joy and faith. It gives you hope for a successful and rewarding day.

The main idea is that we LOOK for our Savior. When we are looking for Him, we are thinking about Him, and when we are thinking about Him, we are fulfilling the sacramental instructions to “always remember Him,” so that we may have His Spirit to be with us.
