Two Parts Required for Salvation

DC 138:2-4
2 And reflecting upon the great atoning sacrifice that was made by the Son of God, for the redemption of the world;
3 And the great and wonderful love made manifest by the Father and the Son in the coming of the Redeemer into the world;
4 That through his atonement, and by obedience to the principles of the gospel, mankind might be saved.

To be saved means to gain eternal life, exaltation in the highest heaven of the Celestial World. To be saved requires two parts:
Part 1) The atonement of Jesus Christ
Part 2) Our obedience to the principles of the gospel that includes all the principles, laws and ordinances of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Part 1 has been fulfilled through Jesus' atoning sacrifice, the shedding of His blood. Now, Part 2 is up to us to exercise our agency, to see whether or not we will be totally obedient to God by doing all that He requires of us, for "It is by grace that we are saved after all we can do."  (See 2 Nephi 25:23)
